| The Science Scholarships For Students Of Color Application
Dr. and Mrs. Ronald Rada helped establish this program to recognize and support outstanding students of color in science. Dr. Rada is a long-time member of the UW-L biology faculty and university administration and has supported many initiatives in research and in the sciences.
This scholarship helps academically high-ranking first-year students of color entering the College of Science and Allied Health (SAH). Recipients will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship upon entering SAH. Scholarship recipients who remain within the college and maintain solid academic performance will again be awarded $1,000 scholarships for their sophomore, junior, and senior years. Faculty mentors will advise and support recipients throughout their college career. Applicants must be African-American, American Indian or Alaskan Native, Hispanic/Latino American, or Southeast Asian or Asian/Pacific Islander. Applicants should rank in the top 40 percent of their high school graduating class and have a composite ACT (American College Test) of 19 or higher (or equivalent SAT score).
Applications should include:
- This completed application form.
- A 500 word (maximum) essay discussing your interest in science/mathematics/computer science and your future career goals. Include in your essay how your experiences and/or perspectives have helped influence your goals.
- Two letters of recommendation from former or current high school teachers, one of whom must be a science, math, or computer science instructor.
Complete application packages should be received by April 15.
