$360K+ in scholarships awarded

Alumni Association gives two awards

Despite a slumping economy forcing endowment earnings down, the UW-L Foundation has awarded 400 scholarships totaling $360,000 for 2009-10. (The Foundation typically awards around 600 scholarships valued at $540,00.)

Receiving this year’s two Alumni Association Scholarships were Chelsea Haase, Menasha, and Jared Straub, Wisconsin Rapids. They’re pictured with Anne Grayson, ’86, president of the Alumni Association, far left, and Janie Spencer, ’85 & ’86, executive director of the Alumni Association, far right. Among other criteria, recipients must be enrolled full time, have at least a 3.0 GPA and be a UW-L alum or immediate relative of an alum.

Stories behind many of UW-L Foundation scholarship donors are special. Hear some of them at: http://www.uwlax.edu/edtech/2009scholars

Gymnastics, men’s track and field add national titles

Women’s gymnastics captured its 13th National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) championship in March. It was UW-L’s eighth in the last nine years and 10th in the last 13. The Eagles’ 13 overall national crowns are the most in NCGA history.

Meanwhile, the men’s track & field team captured its 15th NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championship in March. The Eagles and UW-Oshkosh tied for the national crown with 32.0 points. UW-L has now captured eight of the last nine indoor championships, including two straight. The 15 overall titles are the most in NCAA III history. The Eagles also have a nation-leading 26 national titles overall (15 indoor, 11 outdoor).
